Judo – the one were Adele is unconvinced by the grading

Ok so I think it’s established that I love Judo!! I mean really love it. I could spend all day hitting the mat quite happily and it’s only my third week.

This week they graded the class. We are all pretty new, the adult class has only been back on since a bit before Christmas so that’s not a problem. The problem is, I like to earn things. They had us practise the move then do the move then the next one, until we all earned our first grade. If we get our licence we can have our red belt grade now. Great, and I know it was to encourage us and get us going, in juniors you start as a red belt pretty much I think. Still, in my head what i’m hearing is, you should be able to execute this move from memory any time the shout it out and you know you couldn’t.

I guess then the thing to do is study the damn stuff till I am satisfied I know it to the standard I feel I should have known it before being graded.

The exciting news tonight was I got my judogi. I have giant white pyjamas, and i’m very excited. They are a little big and you can see my underpants through the holes in the hips, so I am constantly doing a decency check, but these are small things compared with the pleasure of having my own gi.

Tomorrow, I have my first grading for Kickboxing, will be gutted if I don’t get it, feel i’ve earned this one.
